The B. Braun Vasofix Safety Cannula is a single-use peripheral intravenous catheter designed to establish and maintain intravascular access. This device facilitates various medical procedures including blood sampling, administration of intravenous fluids, medications, and blood products.
Its design incorporates safety mechanisms to mitigate risks associated with intravenous therapy. The cannula is constructed from materials that are free from DEHP, Latex/Natural Rubber, and PVC, promoting patient safety and compatibility. It is available in two catheter materials: Polyurethane (PUR) for enhanced patient comfort and flexibility during prolonged indwelling periods, and Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) as an alternative with a firmer consistency.
The device is equipped with fixation wings that aid in stabilizing the cannula, thereby reducing catheter movement and minimizing the potential for related complications. An integrated injection port allows for the administration of additional substances without necessitating the discontinuation of the primary infusion. Radiopaque stripes are incorporated into the catheter for enhanced visualization under X-ray imaging, aiding in placement verification and monitoring.
The universal back-cut bevel design of the needle is engineered to accommodate a broad range of insertion angles and is intended to minimize puncture-related trauma to the vessel. A key feature is the passive, fully automatic needlestick protection system, which deploys automatically upon withdrawal of the needle and cannot be bypassed or manually activated by the user. This integrated safety mechanism is designed to significantly reduce the incidence of needlestick injuries and the associated risks of infection transmission.
The double flashback technology provides confirmation of correct vessel entry, with the first flashback indicating needle entry into the vein and the second confirming catheter placement within the vessel. This dual confirmation enhances the accuracy and safety of the cannulation procedure. The Vasofix Safety Cannula is suitable for use across a wide patient demographic, including adults, pediatrics, and neonates, making it a versatile tool for infusion therapy across various age groups and clinical settings.
Its applications are broad, encompassing routine fluid and medication delivery, as well as more specialized therapeutic interventions requiring secure and reliable venous access. Usage requires adherence to standard aseptic techniques for venipuncture and catheter insertion. Post-insertion, regular monitoring of the insertion site for signs of complications such as phlebitis or infiltration is recommended, in accordance with institutional protocols.
The device is intended for single use only and should be disposed of appropriately after removal.
