Twinrix Paediatric injection is a vaccine that helps protect infants, children, and teenagers (from 1 year up to 15 years old) against two liver diseases: Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B. It contains non-infectious parts of the Hepatitis A virus and the Hepatitis B virus. These parts help your body learn to recognise and fight off these viruses if you come into contact with them in the future.

Usage Instructions

Directions for Use

The doctor will inject Twinrix Paediatric vaccine into the muscle of your upper arm (if you are an adolescent or older child) or into the thigh muscle (if you are an infant). The vaccine should never be injected into a vein.
Before the injection, the vaccine must be shaken well to achieve a uniform, hazy white liquid.

Talk to your doctor if

You have had any health problems after a previous vaccination.
You have a weak immune system due to illness or medication.
You have a bleeding disorder or bruise easily.
You have fainted after a previous injection. Fainting can happen, especially in adolescents, even before or after the needle goes in. Make sure procedures are in place to prevent injury from fainting.
You might have been exposed to Hepatitis A or B recently (you might be in the incubation period). It's not known if the vaccine will prevent the disease in these cases.
The vaccine will not protect against other liver infections like Hepatitis C and E, or other germs.

How Does It Work?

Twinrix Paediatric injection helps your body build its defense system (antibodies) against Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B viruses. After receiving the injections, your immune system recognizes the harmless components of the viruses in the vaccine and begins to produce antibodies. These antibodies will protect you if you are ever exposed to the actual viruses. Typically, protection against both diseases develops within 2 to 4 weeks after the first dose.
