This product consists of a non-absorbable, synthetic monofilament suture made of polypropylene. It is designed for use in surgical procedures where extended wound support is required. The suture material is inert and exhibits minimal tissue reactivity, contributing to a smooth passage through tissue and a reduced risk of infection.
The polypropylene suture is dyed blue to enhance visibility during surgical procedures, facilitating precise placement and knot tying.
The suture is attached to a 13mm, 1/2 circle CC-4 double needle. The CC-4 needle is a reverse cutting needle, characterized by its three cutting edges on the concave side of the curve, which is designed to penetrate tough tissue with less tearing force. The reverse cutting design helps to minimize tissue cut-through, particularly in dense tissues.
The double needle configuration allows for simultaneous suturing from two points or for a continuous suturing technique, potentially reducing procedure time.
The primary benefit of this suture lies in its non-absorbable nature and high tensile strength. Polypropylene sutures maintain their strength indefinitely within the tissue, providing long-term wound closure and support. This makes them suitable for a wide range of surgical applications, including cardiovascular surgery, ophthalmic surgery, and general soft tissue approximation where permanent support is beneficial.
The monofilament construction also prevents bacterial harboring, a significant advantage in preventing surgical site infections.
This surgical suture is intended for use by trained medical professionals, including surgeons and surgical nurses, in various surgical settings. Its applications span across multiple surgical specialties. It is commonly employed in procedures requiring secure and long-lasting tissue approximation, such as hernia repairs, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and tendon repair.
The specific needle and suture combination is chosen based on the tissue type, the depth of the wound, and the surgeon's preference.
When using this suture, it is important to follow standard aseptic surgical techniques to minimize the risk of infection. The suture should be handled with appropriate surgical instruments to avoid damage to the suture material or needle. Knot security is generally good with polypropylene, but surgeons should ensure proper knot tying techniques are employed to achieve optimal wound closure without excessive tension.
The suture is supplied sterile and should only be used if the packaging remains intact. Disposal should be in accordance with hospital protocols for medical waste.
