This product consists of Ethilon sutures, a type of non-absorbable surgical suture crafted from monofilament polyamide. Designed for medical professionals, these sutures are intended for precise approximation and ligation of tissues during surgical procedures. The monofilament construction contributes to a smooth passage through tissue planes, minimizing drag and facilitating ease of handling for the surgeon.
The material's inherent properties provide reliable wound support over an extended period, as it is not broken down by the body's metabolic processes. The suture is presented in a silver color, which can aid in visualization during operative procedures, particularly in certain lighting conditions or tissue types. Each foil contains a 70 cm length of suture material.
The accompanying needle is a 19 mm, 3/8 circle, reverse cutting point needle. This needle design is engineered for efficient penetration of tougher tissues, such as skin and oral mucosa. The reverse cutting geometry is intended to reduce the risk of tissue cut-through compared to conventional cutting needles, while still providing the necessary sharpness for effective tissue entry.
The Ethiprime coating applied to the suture is designed to further enhance its performance by reducing friction as it passes through tissue and improving the security of surgical knots.
This specific configuration, NW3351, features a USP size of 6-0, which corresponds to a metric size of 0.7. This fine gauge suture is typically employed in procedures requiring delicate tissue handling and closure.
The non-absorbable nature of Ethilon sutures makes them suitable for applications where long-term tensile strength is critical for wound healing and support. This includes situations where gradual tissue regeneration may take an extended time or where the integrity of the closure must be maintained for a prolonged duration.
Typical users of this product are surgeons, surgical residents, and other qualified medical practitioners performing a wide range of surgical interventions. Applications can include skin closure, plastic surgery, ophthalmic procedures, and other specialties where fine, non-absorbable sutures are indicated. The product is supplied in foil packages, with each box containing 12 individual foil-wrapped sutures and needles.
It is important to note that these sutures are intended for single use only and should not be resterilized or reused. Damaged packaging should not be used. Storage should be in a cool, dry environment, and proper disposal of used materials is essential for infection control and environmental safety.
Patients should not handle or store these medical devices.
