Ursoriv Tablet contains ursodeoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring bile acid produced in the liver. This medication is primarily prescribed for treating liver-related disorders, including primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and cholesterol-based gallstones. It is occasionally used to manage liver conditions associated with cystic fibrosis.
The mechanism of action of Ursoriv Tablet involves reducing cholesterol content in bile. Ursoriv Tablet should be swallowed whole after a meal, accompanied by a glass of milk or water. The dosage will depend on the condition being treated and your body weight.
Take it regularly for maximum benefit, for the duration prescribed (several months or longer), even if symptoms disappear. Common side effects may include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, hair loss, itching, nausea, and rash. Not everyone experiences these side effects.
If you have concerns or if the side effects persist, inform your doctor. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have inflammation of the gallbladder or bile ducts, experience frequent cramp-like pain in your upper abdomen, have been coughing up blood, or have gained weight rapidly. Ursoriv Tablet may affect the effectiveness of other medications, so inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking.
Women should discontinue hormonal birth control pills, as they can increase the production of gallstones. Ultrasound scans and frequent blood tests may be necessary to monitor your liver function during treatment.
There is limited information on the safety of Ursoriv Tablets in pregnancy. Hence, it is recommended not to use the same unless prescribed by your doctor.
The safety of Ursoriv Tablets is not established in breastfeeding women. Hence, it should not be used while breastfeeding.
It is not expected that Ursoriv Tablet will affect your ability to drive but if you do not feel well or are unable to be alert, you should avoid driving.
Although there is no known interaction with alcohol and Ursoriv Tablet, it is essential to consult your physician if you have a habit of regular drinking.
Talk to your doctor if
The most common symptom of an overdose of Ursoriv is diarrhoea. Consult your doctor immediately if you have taken an excessive dose of this medicine.
If you missed any dose of Ursoriv Tablets, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of this medicine to compensate for the missed one.
Ursoriv Tablet improve liver function. It works as a dissolving agent and thus reduces the cholesterol content in bile and controls the blood's amount of cholesterol. It is also known to control the synthesis of cholesterol and absorption from the intestine.
No, it does not have an action against reducing increased liver enzymes.
High blood cholesterol levels can cause supersaturation of cholesterol crystals, which may eventually lead to gallstone formation.
