Lamostad tablet is a combination medicine used to treat HIV-1 infection in patients aged 12 years and older who weigh at least 60 kg. It works by reducing the amount of virus in your body and supporting your immune system's ability to fight infections. Lamivudine and stavudine, the two active ingredients, stop the virus from multiplying by interfering with its ability to copy its genetic material.

This helps reduce the virus level in your body and slows down the progression of HIV. Like all medications, Lamostad tablet may cause side effects. Some common ones include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, and stomach discomfort.

You may also feel very weak, tired, or short of breath, and in some cases, weakness in the arms or legs can occur. If any of these symptoms become severe or unusual, it’s important to contact your doctor. Serious side effects like liver problems or pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) are rare but can happen, especially when used with other medications like didanosine.

You should take this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Swallow the tablet whole with water, preferably at the same time each day and on an empty stomach. Don’t take more than the prescribed dose.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for the next dose. Never take two doses at once. In case of overdose, seek medical help immediately.

Let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking, as Lamostad tablet can interact with certain drugs. Avoid using it with zidovudine, zalcitabine, or be cautious if you are also on doxorubicin, ribavirin, or kidney-cleared medicines like trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole. Alcohol should be avoided as it can increase the risk of liver and pancreas damage.

Also, this medicine should be used in pregnancy only if your doctor advises it, and breastfeeding is not recommended due to the risk of passing HIV to your baby. Always store the tablets in a cool, dry place, away from heat, sunlight, and children. Keep in touch with your doctor for regular check-ups and lab tests.

If you have liver issues, are co-infected with hepatitis B, or are taking this medicine with others like didanosine, let your doctor know as there may be added risks. This medicine helps manage HIV but is not a cure, so it is important to take it consistently and follow your treatment plan closely.
