injection is an antibiotic medicine used in hospitals to treat serious bacterial infections. These include infections in the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and soft tissue, intra-abdominal infections, septicemia, and bacterial meningitis. It is typically prescribed only when other antibiotics are ineffective.
This medicine is a combination of ceftazidime and tazobactam. Ceftazidime works by destroying the bacterial cell wall, thereby helping to stop the infection. Tazobactam supports ceftazidime by blocking substances that bacteria use to resist antibiotics, making the treatment more effective.
Some people may experience side effects like diarrhoea, nausea, headache, skin rashes, or pain at the injection site. Tell your doctor if you have allergies to antibiotics or if you have kidney issues. Also, let your doctor know about any other medicines you are taking, especially those for cancer, gout, or if you're using birth control, as they can interact with injection.
This medicine is administered by a doctor or nurse; never attempt to self-inject it. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor first. Avoid driving if you feel dizzy or drowsy after the injection.
Always store it properly and keep it out of children’s reach. If you feel unwell after receiving the medicine, such as experiencing seizures, vomiting, or persistent diarrhoea, please inform your doctor immediately.
The components of this medicine pass into breastmilk and are known to cause fungal infections of the mouth and diarrhoea in babies. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding, as they will advise you on the use of this medicine after assessing the benefits and risks.
This medicine may affect your ability to drive or operate machines. Do not drive or operate machines if you experience dizziness and drowsiness.
Although there is no known interaction between alcohol and this medicine, it is essential to consult your physician if you have a habit of consuming alcohol regularly.
Talk to your doctor if
You will be monitored by the doctor or nurse as to when injection should be given to you. Thus, it is unlikely that a dose of the injection will be missed. If the doctor or nurse might have missed a dose, inform them.
Your doctor or nurse will give this injection. Therefore, it is less likely to provide you with more or less of this medicine. However, if you experience loose motions, nausea, vomiting and fits immediately after taking this injection, inform your doctor as soon as possible.
Kidney damage can happen when using ceftazidime. Call your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any symptoms of kidney damage.
Yes. Fever, chills, or sore throat; any unexplained bruising or bleeding; or feeling very tired or weak. Redness or white patches in the mouth or throat. Vaginal itching or discharge. Diarrhoea is common with antibiotics.
