Pantom injection is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (characterised by one or more tumours formed in the pancreas or upper part of the small intestine). It contains pantoprazole as its main component. It belongs to a group of medicines called Proton pump inhibitors, which reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Pantom injection decreases gastric acid secretion by blocking the actions of a protein membrane called H+k+atpase (proton pump) across the stomach lining. As a result, it helps prevent the worsening of ulcers, promotes the healing of existing ulcers and oesophageal lesions, and provides relief from unpleasant symptoms of the gastrointestinal tract (such as acidity, heartburn, and acid reflux). Pantom injection may not be suitable for everyone.

A pump called the proton pump in the stomach is responsible for the secretion of stomach acids. Pantoprazole binds to this proton pump in stomach cells, thus blocking acid secretion. Therefore, it is used in conditions where there is excessive acidity.
