Sitara Pm tablet is a combination medicine used to manage type 2 diabetes in adults. This medication is usually prescribed when diet, exercise, or single-drug therapy alone is insufficient to achieve adequate blood glucose control. This medication works through three mechanisms to improve glycemic control.
Sitagliptin increases the levels of hormones that stimulate postprandial insulin secretion and reduce hepatic glucose production. Metformin lowers glucose production in the liver, decreases sugar absorption from the gut, and improves the body’s response to insulin. Pioglitazone enhances insulin sensitivity, allowing the body to use its own insulin more effectively.
Sitara Pm tablet should be taken exactly as advised by the physician, usually with or after meals, to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Taking it at the same time each day helps maintain consistent blood sugar control and improves treatment adherence. Along with this medication, following a healthy diabetic diet, regular physical activity, and routine blood glucose monitoring are essential for optimal outcomes.
Some people may experience side effects such as headache, dizziness, mild respiratory infections, weight gain, numbness, or blurred vision. Low blood sugar can occur, especially if this medicine is taken with other antidiabetic drugs, meals are skipped, or there is excessive physical exertion. Carrying a quick source of sugar and recognizing early symptoms of hypoglycemia can help manage such situations promptly.
This medicine may not be suitable for everyone, especially individuals with kidney, liver, or heart problems, severe infections, or a history of alcohol abuse. Regular medical follow-ups are important for monitoring blood glucose levels, kidney function, and overall health. Always inform your doctor about other medicines you are taking and report any unusual symptoms such as swelling, sudden weight gain, breathing difficulty, or persistent tiredness.
Sitara Pm tablet should not be used during pregnancy as there is limited information about its safety during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby before starting this medicine.
Sitara Pm tablet should not use this medication while breastfeeding, as Metformin is known to pass into breast milk; however, the amount is low enough to cause no adverse effects. Please consult your doctor before using this medicine.
If you are taking the Sitara Pm tablet along with other antidiabetic medicines, there are chances your blood sugar may drop. You may experience dizziness, increased sweating, weakness, difficulty concentrating, which can impair your driving ability. Thus, you should take extra care when driving. Always keep sugar, juice or a bar of chocolate in your car while driving. In case you experience any of the symptoms, stop driving immediately and have sugar/ juice. Do not consume sugar-free items at such episodes.
Avoid excessive consumption of alcohol while taking Sitara Pm tablet. Alcohol lowers blood sugar, which can be dangerous and also increases the risk of a serious condition called lactic acidosis.
Talk to your doctor if
Excess of Sitara Pm tablet may lead to lactic acidosis, causing symptoms like vomiting, stomach ache, muscle cramps, and difficulty in breathing. You must seek immediate emergency medical care if you suspect an overdose.
If you miss any dose of Sitara Pm tablet, take it as soon as you remember with food. However, if it is time for the next dose, then skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Sitara Pm tablet helps control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when taken regularly along with a healthy diet and exercise. Take it with or after meals, avoid excessive alcohol, monitor your blood sugar as advised, and always carry a quick source of sugar to manage low blood sugar symptoms. Consult your doctor if you notice swelling, unusual tiredness, breathing difficulty, or if you have kidney, liver, or heart problems.
Sitara Pm tablet alone usually does not cause low blood sugar, but the risk increases if it is taken with other antidiabetic medicines, missed meals, or excessive exercise.
Some people may notice weight gain, mainly due to the pioglitazone component. Maintaining a balanced diet and regular physical activity can help manage this.
