Overview

Zaprol Infusion is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (one or more tumours formed in the pancreas or upper part of the small intestine). It contains pantoprazole as its main component. It belongs to a group of medicines called "Proton pump inhibitors", medications that reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if

You have severe liver problems.
You are taking medicines used to treat HIV.
You notice significant & unintentional weight loss, recurrent vomiting, difficulty in swallowing, blood in vomit and anaemia.
You have ever had an allergic reaction after taking pantoprazole in the past.
If you are taking this medicine for more than one year, it may increase the chances of developing bone fractures.
You are scheduled to have a blood test (Chromogranin A).
If you get rash on your skin on exposure to the sun, inform your doctor.
If you are on this medicine for more than three months, your blood magnesium levels may drop. Your doctor may perform regular tests for the same.

Dosage

This injection will be given to you by a doctor or nurse. Therefore, it is less likely that you may get an overdose of this medicine. If you experience any symptoms right after taking this injection, seek medical help.

Missed a Dose

The doctor or nurse usually gives this injection in the hospital or clinic. Therefore, the chances of missing a dose are less. However, if you feel that a dose has been missed, please inform your doctor and nurse.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

A pump called the proton pump in the stomach is responsible for the secretion of stomach acids. Pantoprazole binds to this proton pump in stomach cells, thus blocking acid secretion. Therefore, it is used in conditions where there is excessive acidity.
