Bactoclav Oral Liquid is an antibiotic medicine used to treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is specially formulated for children and should always be given under adult supervision. You may give Bactoclav Oral Liquid to your child with or without food; however, administering it with food is recommended to improve absorption and reduce the risk of stomach upset.
Your doctor may advise giving it two to three times daily. The exact dose and frequency depend on the type and severity of the infection, as well as your child’s age and body weight. Always follow the prescribed dose, schedule, and method of administration.
If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, allow them to settle and then repeat the same dose. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, do not give a double dose to make up for the missed one. Possible side effects of Bactoclav Oral Liquid include vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, and allergic reactions.
These side effects are usually mild and temporary. However, if they persist or become severe, consult your child’s doctor promptly. Inform the doctor about your child’s complete medical history, including any previous allergies, heart conditions, blood disorders, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung problems, gastrointestinal issues, skin conditions, or liver and kidney disorders.
This information will help the doctor adjust the dose appropriately and plan the overall treatment safely and effectively.
Talk to your doctor if
Symptoms of an overdose include stomach disturbances, vomiting, diarrhoea, drowsiness and fluid retention. If you have given too much of Bactoclav Oral Liquid to your child, contact your doctor or reach out to the nearest hospital immediately.
It is advised not to miss any dose of antibiotics as it can affect the treatment regimen. If you have missed giving any dose of Bactoclav Oral Liquid, then give it as soon as you remember. If it's already time for the next dose, then skip the missed dose and follow the regular dosing schedule.
Bactoclav Oral Liquid works by the combined action of both its components - amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin works by killing the bacteria responsible for infections. However, the bacteria make the enzyme (beta-lactamases) which can destroy amoxicillin. Clavulanic acid inactivates this enzyme and hence helps amoxicillin to perform its function.
Yes, diarrhoea is a common side effect during treatment with Bactoclav Oral Liquid. However, if your child is experiencing persistent diarrhoea, seek advice from your doctor immediately.
Never give Bactoclav Oral Liquid if your child is allergic to penicillin. Serious side effects can result in the same. Always consult your doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Bactoclav Oral Liquid can start showing its effect approximately after 1 hour of its consumption. However, it varies among individuals and can also vary due to the severity of the infection. As it is an antibiotic medicine, the complete effect towards the infection could be seen after the course completion of the antibiotic treatment.
