syrup is used to treat uncomplicated malaria caused by the Plasmodium falciparum parasite. Artemether and lumefantrine are the main ingredients in this medication. They are suitable for infants weighing over 5 kg, children, and adults.
The combination works by targeting the malaria parasite in the bloodstream and preventing it from detoxifying harmful waste products, leading to the parasite's destruction. To ensure effectiveness, take the medication with high-fat foods or beverages, such as milk, as prescribed by your doctor. Shake the bottle well before use and measure the exact dose using a measuring cup, spoon, or dropper.
If you vomit within the first hour of taking the medicine, consult your doctor immediately. Follow the prescribed course without skipping doses to ensure the infection is fully treated. If you experience worsening symptoms after taking the syrup, seek medical attention.
Common side effects include palpitations, vomiting, joint or muscle pain, dizziness, fatigue, and loss of appetite. If you experience any of these symptoms, consult your doctor. Additionally, be cautious when taking this medication with other drugs, such as rifampin, ketoconazole, mefloquine, hormonal contraceptives, and medications that prolong the QT interval, as they may interact and affect the medication's effectiveness or increase the risk of side effects.
Store the medication below 25°C in a cool and dry place, keeping it out of the reach of children and pets. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
If it's almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
