Ibugesic Plus Tablet is an analgesic and antipyretic medication, widely used for the short-term management of mild to moderate pain, inflammation, and fever. It contains two active ingredients: Ibuprofen (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID) and Paracetamol (Also Known as Acetaminophen). Ibuprofen works by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are essential for the production of prostaglandins, a class of chemicals in the body that cause pain, fever, and inflammation.
Paracetamol enhances the pain-relieving and fever-reducing effects by acting centrally in the brain, where it blocks the generation of pain signals and regulates body temperature. This medication is commonly used for conditions such as headaches, toothaches, muscle and joint pain, menstrual cramps, postoperative discomfort, and fever. It is especially beneficial when both pain and inflammation need to be managed simultaneously.
Ibugesic Plus provides a faster onset of action and enhanced efficacy compared to either component used alone. However, its use should be limited to the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration to avoid adverse effects, particularly gastrointestinal irritation, liver stress, and kidney function compromise. While Ibugesic Plus is not habit-forming, it should be used with caution in individuals with liver or kidney impairment, gastrointestinal ulcers, bleeding disorders, asthma, cardiovascular conditions, or autoimmune disorders.
It is contraindicated in pregnant women (especially during the third trimester), and caution is advised in breastfeeding mothers due to the mild excretion of components into breast milk. Alcohol should be strictly avoided during treatment as it significantly increases the risk of liver toxicity and gastrointestinal bleeding. Ibugesic Plus should not be taken along with other paracetamol-containing products or NSAIDs, unless prescribed by a healthcare provider.
The tablet should be taken with or after food to minimise stomach upset. Dosing should be as per your physician's advice. Long-term or high-dose use without medical supervision can lead to serious complications such as liver failure, kidney damage, or peptic ulcer disease.
It may interact with several medications, including blood thinners (e.g., warfarin), antihypertensives, antiepileptics, antibiotics (e.
g., ciprofloxacin), and immunosuppressants (e.g.
, tacrolimus). You should always consult a doctor before initiating or combining it with other medications, especially if managing chronic conditions. Combiflam tablet , Flexon tablet , and Imol Plus tablet also contain the same composition as Ibugesic Plus tablet.
Do not take a double dose if you have missed the dose. Take the next dose as soon as you remember. A minimum of 6 hour gap is recommended between 2 doses.
This combination acts by interfering with the production of a chemical called prostaglandins which is responsible for swelling and pain. It also controls fever and promotes cartilage matrix synthesis.
Swallow this tablet with a full glass of water. This medicine can be taken with or without meals but if you have a sensitive stomach, it is preferably taken with meals.
Pregnant women should not consume this medicine. This medicine can hamper the growth of fetus and can also cause heart and kidney-related problems in the baby. It can delay the labour and increase the duration as both mother and baby are at a risk of bleeding disorders if consumed by pregnant women. Women who are trying to conceive and taking treatment for infertility should not take this medicine.
This medicine passes in breast milk in low concentrations and may not be harmful to the breastfed baby. It can be used for short durations and at lowest possible dose if you are breastfeeding your baby.
You may experience dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue and visual disturbances. Thus, it is advised not to drive when you are taking this medicine and experiencing these signs.
You should avoid consuming alcohol along with this medicine. It can increase the risk of liver disease and stomach bleeding.
Talk to your doctor if
Ibuprofen and paracetamol may reduce methotrexate clearance, increasing its toxicity (e.g., blood disorders, liver issues).
Avoid using together unless monitored. Your doctor may recommend dose adjustment and blood monitoring.
Ibuprofen or paracetamol / acetaminophen may reduce the effectiveness of mifepristone if used within 8–12 days.
Do not take ibuprofen or paracetamol / acetaminophen within 8–12 days of mifepristone unless directed by a physician.
Increased risk of blood-related toxicities like anemia or bleeding, especially in HIV-positive patients with hemophilia.
Monitor blood counts regularly. Use alternative pain relief if possible.
May increase the risk of kidney toxicity when taken with ibuprofen and paracetamol / acetaminophen .
Avoid combination or monitor renal function carefully if used together.
May increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, and may reduce the cardioprotective effect of low-dose aspirin.
Avoid regular ibuprofen use with aspirin unless low-dose aspirin (?75 mg) is prescribed by a doctor. Space dosing if co-administration is necessary.
May increase the liver toxicity of paracetamol.
Use with caution. Monitor liver function tests especially in long-term use or at-risk patients.
Ibuprofen or paracetamol / acetaminophen may decrease lithium elimination, raising the risk of lithium toxicity (e.g., tremors, confusion).
Monitor lithium levels and kidney function if both are required. Dose adjustment may be necessary.
Prolonged paracetamol use may increase the effect of warfarin, raising the risk of bleeding.
Monitor INR more frequently if using this product regularly. Occasional use is unlikely to cause issues.
Increased risk of nephrotoxicity when combined with NSAIDs.
Avoid combination if possible. If used, monitor kidney function closely.
Slows down the absorption of paracetamol, reducing its pain-relieving effect.
Take cholestyramine at least one hour apart from paracetamol-containing products if quick pain relief is needed.
Combined use may lead to high anion gap metabolic acidosis due to pyroglutamic acidosis, especially in patients with risk factors.
Use with caution. Monitor acid-base balance in at-risk individuals.
May increase the rate of absorption of paracetamol, leading to a faster onset of action.
Generally safe to use together. No need to avoid, but consult your doctor if taking them regularly.
